Tommy Jerald Stanley, 68, of Pound, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, July 23 after a long, but valiant, battle with respiratory illness.
Born in Pound to Eugene and Bea Stanley, Tommy is one of eleven children and twin of Earl Stanley, who passed away in 2020. Tommy, fondly known as ‘Long Hair,’ loved trucks. After a career in long-haul trucking, he and his wife, Greta, began Stanley Trucking, a coal hauling business that served as his work, his hobby, and his passion—right up to the end.
Tall, strong, and lean in stature, Tommy was the quiet type who was often more likely to listen and reflect than be the center of attention. Other times his quick wit would be delivered with a deep laugh and smiling blue eyes or a pointed look that said nothing and everything all at once. Above all, his family and friends knew him to be honest and integral.
Tommy is survived and beloved by his wife, Greta Stanley; daughter Samantha Stanley and husband David Kim; son Tommy James Stanley and wife Jessica; step-son Michael Boggs and wife Vickie; step-son Camron Boggs and wife Haley; grandchildren Kaydence Stanley, Kingston Stanley, Kamiya Stanley, and Legend Stanley; step-grandchildren Shae Willis, Bryson Boggs, and Camley Boggs; siblings June Strouth and husband Jerry, Carolyn Strouth, Betty Robinson and husband Brent, and David Stanley; and a large extended family of whom he was extremely proud. He is preceded in death by son William and daughter Amanda, as well as his parents and by his siblings Bill Stanley, Earl Stanley, Don Stanley, Jimmy Stanley, Bobby Joel Stanley, and Diane Addington.
Tommy requested that there be no services in his remembrance, rather that those who love him remember fondly the times spent together. His remains are to be cremated by Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, Virginia and returned to his family.
